… a report
17th of August: The Surtsey Crew embarks on a day of exploring in the interior and exterior, at Sudurland and in the language, around
Perlan, Hveragerdi – South coast, Krysuvik and Reykjavik.
With: Angela (driver and workshop leader), Jon and Mette
First stop Perlan: breakfast + overview of the area. View from Mosfellsbæ in the north (?) to Keflavik in the south east (?) etc
First stop: Mid mountain between Kopavogur and Hveragerdi:
we engage with arctic thyme,
avoiding too close encounter with moss.
Second stop: A café on the beach.
Drinking the arctic thyme infusion. What did we gather from it? Associations going from Bygdøy peninsula by Oslo to Chinese tea ceremonies to the polar areas.
Third stop: Krysuvik
Walk with recorder, headphones and a directional mic:
Searching for the sound of geothermal and volcanic activity,
I expect to hear streams and the bubbely bopps of the earth and its waters.
The expectation of earth-water connection,
yet experiencing an intimacy with airplanes
Forth stop: City
The Erikson Brasserie session:
We engage with findings from the beaches: Lava stones
Roleplay with the stones
An impulsive text session of spoken word-ish readings.
A short lecture on construction, deconstruction and reconstruction of language
