Surtsey will be an multidiciplinary performance piece with premiere at Haustscena in Norway early automn 2020. The core artistic group is Jon Tombre and Mette Karlsvik.

Tombre is a prizewinning director and Karlsvik a prizewinning author. They’ve worked together on four previous productions, three of them involving children or adolescents as audience or co-artists.

Per se (late 2019) the production is in research phase, doing workshops and impro sessions in Reykjavik and Oslo.

As Surtsey Piece evolves, crew will expand. This blog serves as an archive of earlier activity. For information for new colleauges or inspiration for anyone curious about collective artworks. Each trip, each encounter, engagement and session will be an important layer to the rock constituting Surtsey piece. And here is a list of some of the formative sessions and happenings: 

2011 – 2019: Mette Karlsvik wrote the Iceland-related books Bli Björk, Post oske, Prinsland, Varmá and Meieriet.

2015: Producing Heksejakt with teenagers: established artists learn from the unestablihed, and vice versa

2016: Tombre/ Karlsvik selected as a Seanse project by Høgskulen i Volda

2017: Premiere night of Spel om draum: the idea of Surtsey piece is born

A two year break, as Jon takes a new master (of acting) and Mette is on maturnity leave

Bruk av sang og dans blir en effektiv måte å illustrere tilhørighet og gruppepress, og det er direkte ubehagelig å se hvordan de med øyeblikks varsel kan veksle fra å være et individ til å bli del av denne samstemte massen.

Karlsvik har også skrevet en betydelig mengde ny tekst, etter hva jeg kan bedømme (delvis saftig sådan, tro hva Miller ville sagt om knull ei kveitefitte?) som uten sjenanse er drapert over originalen.
